Pizza Hut Australia demolishes its first ever outlet

It’s a sad day for the people of Australia. The first ever Pizza Hut has now officially gone.

The first Pizza Hut in Australia is now just a pile of rubble. It is making way for a new apartment building, but it feels like a bit of history has just gone.

Pizza Hut was one of the first big American chains to make it to Australia, with this first store opening in the Sydney suburb of Belfield opening in 1970. McDonald’s follow suit a year later and KFC has been open for two years by the time of Pizza Hut. However, now the first store has been completely demolished to make way for new planning development.

The 61-apartment building is going to replace the current pile of rubble. There are some concerns over parking, but that may be added to the building development, possibly with underground parking or parking on the first couple of levels of the building. That’s the way many other apartment buildings work.

While it may be a sad notion that the first ever Pizza Hut has gone, the actual store had shut down in 1999. It had operated as other businesses since.

That hasn’t stopped social media users commenting about their memories of the place. It was possible to smell the pizza being cooked at night if you lived nearby. Of course, there are worries about what the landscape will look like with the new development that is planned, as is normal when any building is bulldozed and rebuilt upon.
