Taco Bell better watch out Chipolte is gunning for them

Taco Bell has always been the king of late night food, but Chipotle is planning to make changes that may see a turf war ignite.

When the night is late and you have the munchies (for whatever reason, no judging) where is the place you are going to go to satisfy those cravings? Taco Bell is usually the answer. The kings of the late night snack have always been held in high regard amongst the late night cravers.

However Chipotle has their eyes on becoming the new late-night cravers fast food restaurant of choice. In their ongoing efforts to improve their status, which took a blow to the gut after the 2015 food safety scandal, Chipotle has been unveiling new idea after idea and this is the latest in the agenda.

Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol, who was appointed with the aim of turning the business around and getting things back on track, came from both Taco Bell and Pizza Hut with a proven track record. So he has some hands-on experience in what late night snackers want.

Niccol announced that they will pilot the new menu soon. The late night menu includes items like the taco-and-drink special for only $2.

Should Taco Bell be concerned?

Not overly.

Chipotle is not a credible threat right now to Taco Bell but it would be worth Taco Bell keeping an eye out on what they are up to, but nothing more.

Remember, this is one of Chipotles attempts at becoming a major player in the fast food industry. They are not that right now, they may be one day which is why Taco Bell should keep a watchful eye on them, but this is nothing that should cause concerns that require vast changes in order to compete.
