Dunkin’ Donuts finally has a gluten-free option but it’s not a donut
By Callum Gunn
Dunkin’ Donuts is a brand known around the world for its donuts. So, why isn’t the first gluten-free option one of them?
While other chains around them have been offering gluten-free baked goods for a while, Dunkin’ Donuts has held back. Finally, it’s brought a gluten-free option to the menu. It’s just not a donut. You know, the baked good that the chain is famous for! What is it?
Well, it’s not too far off if you think fudge brownies are close enough. It’s at least a step in the right direction.

You can also get Pretzel Bites & Mustard, Donut Fries, Ham & Cheese Roll-Ups, and Waffle Breaded Chicken Tender. To help avoid contamination, the brownies are also individually wrapped.

And many people possibly have gluten sensitivities and allergies but haven’t been formally diagnosed with it. Bustle reports that some studies estimate 6-7% of the population could need a gluten-free diet, which is about 20 million people in the U.S. alone.
Dunkin’ Donuts is finally doing so with one offer, but there are more steps that can be taken. Like how about bringing an actual donut to the menu?
While the franchise hasn’t shared why a brownie has come before a donut, there’s possibly one main reason: ease. It is likely far easier to create a brownie that is gluten-free and tastes good (just like a normal brownie) than it is a donut. Hopefully, with time, we’ll see a gluten-free donut.
