The first multi-state strike by McDonald’s workers has been planned for September 18 with the aim of tackling sexual harassment.
A planned walkout, around lunchtime on September 18, has been set by McDonald’s workers. It will be the first-ever multi-state strike that is targeting sexual harassment. The intention of the strike is to make McDonald’s take a much stronger approach when dealing with sexual harassment while on the job.
Approved by committees of female employees across dozens of different McDonald’s restaurants. They felt encouraged by the #MeToo movement to stand up and put an end to the horrendous conditions they face.

McDonald’s employs tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, of employees, many of them are on low pay, and working in conditions that are far from ideal; and now we have learned in an environment where they are at risk of harassment and sexual assault.
McDonald’s are no strangers to protests and planned walkouts by employees. In the past walkouts have happened before over pay and working conditions. Never has it been over sexual harassment however, and with growing public pressure to not let things like this be brushed under the carpet. A reaction by McDonald’s is expected.
