Subway slammed for slamming McDonald’s

It’s the war of the fast food chains. Subway created a commercial slamming McDonald’s and now it’s getting slammed itself. This time by the public!

Subway thought slamming McDonald’s for unhealthy choices would be a good idea. Unfortunately, that idea has backfired, as viewers took to social media to slam Subway for the ad.

Companies attacking each other in commercials is nothing new in North America (it doesn’t happen in Britain as much), and usually, it’s just seen as a bit of ribbing and fun. This hasn’t been viewed that way, with people taking to Twitter saying they “hate” the new commercial. It’s so bad that Subway has apologized to viewers for that feeling of hatred.

Why hate such a commercial? Well, some people say they end up craving McDonald’s after it and others just think it was badly created. The amount of time the word “burger” is mentioned is one of the reasons viewers are so turned off by it and are planning to not bother eating a Subway until the campaign is done.

Some TV viewers have taken to muting the commercial every time it’s on the air, which is excessive. The only time I’ve ever done that was in the UK when the “Go Compare” ads would routinely come on. I never thought anything could be as annoying as that, but viewers certainly have a point.

It doesn’t look like Subway minds too much. The goal of the commercial was to get people to jump out of their comfort zones, according to Business Insider. That seems to be exactly what it’s done!

Plus the commercial gets people talking about it. That’s something, right?
