Dunkin’ Donuts has officially dropped the Donuts
By Callum Gunn
It’s official, we are now on first name terms only with the store that keeps America running, Dunkin’ Donuts is officially called Dunkin’.
This is not an IHOP rebranding itself as IHOb to promote their new burgers type situation. Dunkin’ Donuts is making this change official and permanent. Come 2019, Dunkin’ Donuts is officially going to be called Dunkin’, the Donuts part of the name is being removed.
The chain actually hinted that this was going to happen a little while ago, but it was only officially confirmed yesterday. An announcement was made via their official Twitter profile.

Changing their name actually makes a bit of sense. While they have been known as Dunkin’ Donuts for over 60 years, nobody really calls them by their full name. When was the last time you said, “I’m heading down to Dunkin’ Donuts,” more likely you said, “I’m heading down to Dunkin’.”

Their whole catchphrase is, America runs on Dunkin’, the Donuts part of their name has become pretty much null and void.
Despite this, the announcement certainly did break the internet. Many took to Twitter to voice their opinion, with some fan’s reaction more hilarious than others. Some have offered their own business advice to the company, and others have voiced either their frustration or just general thoughts about why this is a bad idea.
Regardless what your opinion is, the change will not be coming in until 2019, so there is still time to enjoy the chain while they are still Dunkin’ Donuts.
