Domino’s Pizza celebrated the Day of Anime in style
By Callum Gunn
The Day of Anime may be an unofficially day, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be celebrated. Domino’s Pizza showed that with a stylish Facebook poster.
Nov. 3 is the unofficial Day of Anime. It may not be a food day, but that doesn’t stop fast food joints and pizza places from celebrating it. Domino’s Pizza in Mexico opted for an ingenious way to combine both pizza and the day.
Akira fans cheered when they saw one of their own get in the spirit. Domino’s Mexico reimagined the famous poster with Shotaro Kaneda heading to his hot rod. Instead of his own motorbike, fans saw the blue motorbike perfect for pizza deliveries and Shotaro walking with a Domino’s shirt on and pizza in hand.

The best thing about it is the caption. “It’s time to awaken your powers.”
You just know someone in the marketing department for Domino’s Pizza in Mexico is an anime fan. The downside is that people would have to know Akida to really appreciate the poster and social media post. Some fans did point out in the comments that their friends didn’t get the reference. There were plenty of others online willing to joke and have fun with the reference.

Even the customers who didn’t fully understand it appreciated the use of a fandom poster. It shows that Domino’s (or at least someone in the Mexican social media team) is looking to connect with customers on a more personal level. Show people you care, right?
