Dunkin’ customers are being asked to change their passwords due to breach in security

If you have a DD Perks account with Dunkin’ you are being advised to change your password now after a  potential data security breach.

Customers of Dunkin’ are being advised to change their passwords on their DD Perks account following a potential data security breach at the coffee and donut chain. The announcement came when Dunkin’ posted a statement on their website warning potential customers affected by the potential breach.

Notified by one its security vendors. Dunkin’ was informed that a third party, without authorization, may have attempted to gain access to DD perks accounts. According to the statement, this all occurred on Oct. 31, 2018.

The statement goes on to explain that while there was no data security breach involving its internal systems. Dunkin’ has been informed those third parties that attempted to gain access did obtain some usernames and passwords through other affiliations with Dunkin’.

Depending on what you provided in terms of information in your DD Perks account will depend on whether your information was potentially compromised or not. The types of information that may have been stolen are your first and last names, DD Perks account number, DD Perks QR code, and e-mail address.

This breach has been reported to the police. Dunkin’ are cooperating fully with identifying and apprehending those responsible. Dunkin’ has made it clear that everyone should update and change their current DD Perks password.

Although Dunkin’ did not experience a data securitybreach involving its internal systems, we’ve been informed that third-parties obtained usernamesand passwords through other companies’ security breaches and used this information to log intosome Dunkin’ DD Perks accounts. One of these may have been your account and we want youto know what happened, as well as the steps we are taking to protect your personal information."
