The donut scene in Chicago isn’t as hot as it is in some other states, but there are still a handful of places you can find quality donuts. Here are the 3 best donut shops in the city.

When one thinks of a great food town such as Chicago, the natural assumption is that the food culture is strong all across the board. From breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts, a great food city usually has it all covered. While that’s mostly true for the City of Broad shoulders, Chicago lacks in one major (at least in my opinion) area: Donuts.

Born and raised in this great city, I’ve encountered numerous food opinions throughout the course of my life. As I’ve mentioned before, Chicagoans take their pizza seriously, but they’re just as hot-blooded about hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, tacos, gyros, etc. So when it comes to items such as bagels or —more specifically, donuts—surely they’d have an impassioned opinion about those as well, right?

You see, the sad truth is, that most folks out here are happy to settle for a simple, (likely day-old) donut from Dunkin’ Donuts. Because of this, not many are very fond of them as they’ve never truly known what a real donut is. And believe me, that’s not a knock against Dunkin’ Donuts or other chains. It’s simply an observation of a city that’s settled on a particular food that’s otherwise fairly popular around the world.

So, as an avid foodie living in one of the greatest cities in the world, I’ve decided to take things into my own hands and spread the word about the handful of donut shops not named Dunkin’ Donuts that are worth a visit.

Spoiler alert, it’s not any of the Krispy Kreme donut shops either.
