Trader Joe’s is always popular with those who want to eat healthy. Now they’re fulfilling diet dessert dreams with low-calorie, high protein ice cream.

Trader Joe’s is beloved for its high quality, healthy foods that are often lower in price than competing grocery stores. But until now, fans of the ever-growing group of healthy ice cream cartons couldn’t get their treat at TJ.

Now comes the news to make weight loss dieters scream with joy: Trader Joe’s is adding high protein, low-calorie ice cream to its freezers.

The company will have the new dessert in its freezer section later this year, according to Delish. The high-protein, low-calorie ice cream flavors range in protein from 20 grams to 23 grams

To come up with the new concoctions, Trader Joe’s sought a way to avoid the sugar alcohols that most low-calorie ice creams contain. The company has a tradition of avoiding sugar alcohols in its private label products, and even though it was challenging, they found a supplier who could come through with them.

The new Trader Joe ice cream products will be be packaged as pint sizes. One pint has about 300 calories. The flavors include Cookies and Cream, with 20 grams of protein, and Chocolate Peanut Butter, with 23 grams of protein.

While you’re waiting for Trader Joe’s to fill its freezer with these guilt-free ice creams, Good Housekeeping reports that an increasing number of companies are concocting frozen desserts that are lower in calories.

Enlightened Movie Night Ice Cream, for example, has 90 calories a serving and mixes sweet and salty flavors.  Edy’s Slow Churned Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream contains 110 calories per serving of minty chocolate goodness.
