CVT Soft Serve ice cream truck now charging influencers double
By Callum Gunn
Thought about asking the CVT Soft Serve truck owner in L.A. for free ice cream for exposure? Influencers are now being charged double and we can’t blame him for his reasons!
In a world of social media, it’s not surprising that more people have found ways to make money and get free things. There are thousands of social media influencers out there, people that CVT Soft Serve ice cream truck owner, Joe Nicchi, in L.A. is fed up with.
He’s so fed up that he’s started charging those who say they’re influencers double. And really, it’s not all that surprising considering the backstory.

This isn’t just to get back at one or two people. He’s had a huge problem with influencers offering “exposure” for free ice cream. Maybe if it was a tub of Ben & Jerry’s it might be different. The brand could afford to give away a few review samples of its new creations, but this is one guy with an ice cream truck selling $4 ice cream cones.
Yes, you read that right. It costs just $4 for the ice cream and influencers want the cones for free for “exposure.” So, Nicchi says that they’ll now pay $8 if they ask for something for free.

It’s not just the amount of people wanting these items for free that irritated him the most. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when one influencer asked him to do a party for 300 people for absolutely no pay at all. It would be in exchange for “exposure,” because that really pays the bills.
Nicchi has now spread the word through his own Instagram account and it’s, ironically, gone viral. It looks like he’s doing pretty well on the exposure front by himself!
He’s certainly not the first business owner to take steps to shoot down social media influencers. There’s one thing working with a particular influencer or company to help with promotion, but there’s another thing having multiple influencers asking for free stuff when it guarantees absolutely nothing.
