You don’t need to live in the big cities such as Los Angeles or New York, there is plenty of delicious African cuisine in all other places across the nation!

Here are our picks from Texas, Illinois, and North Carolina…

8. Peli Peli — Houston, TX

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that goes for food from all cultures! Just have a look at the images Peli Peli from Houston, TX, has shared on their social media (which you can check out above).

Situated in the Uptown area of sprawling Houston, Peli Peli will catch you by pleasant surprise. Specializing in South African cuisine, the rich flavors and appetizing dishes will have you singing the praises of Africa. A must-try while here: The Kingklip.

7. Mogadishu — Chicago, IL

Ask anyone who has eaten at Mogadishu on Chicago’s Near North Side, and they’ll tell you that it’s one of the best the Windy City has to offer. Their specialty is Somalian food, and once you take your first bite, you’ll be a fan for life. This restaurant gives real relaxing, home-cooking vibes, can’t go wrong with that!

6. Jamile’s Cuisine International — Charlotte, NC

Charlotte has recently come up from the dining dark ages, and now the city has a healthy mix of great international restaurants that matches the city’s growing diversity. Chief among these great restaurants is Jamile’s Cuisine, which serves up some of the best Somalian cuisines in the Queen City!

5. New Goha Ethiopian — Nashville, TN

Nashville may be the home of hot chicken and great southern cuisines, but this city also has a fantastic Ethiopian restaurant that you must try out! New Goha may seem like a mom-and-pop restaurant, but this Ethiopian restaurant packs a huge punch when it comes to its East African cuisine. Make sure you don’t leave here without trying their black beans.

4. Moji African Restaurant — Miami, FL

Miami is a city packed with great cuisines from all over the world. There are just as many great Caribbean and African restaurants to experience here as it is Cuban, and one cannot experience Miami’s one-of-a-kind food scene without visiting Moji African Restaurant. Yes, it out in the County far removed from trendy South Beach, but their West African cuisine is definitely worth the drive west. Their grilled chicken and Egusi is simply out-of-this-world.
