20% of people unhappy with delivered food not hot enough and more: Report

What do you think when you first get your food delivered to your door? As much as 20% of people complain their food isn’t hot enough. Here’s a look at the results of a national survey.

We all have our nitpicks when it comes to delivered food. Some of our complaints are legitimate, like when the order comes and something is missing (especially something we’ve paid extra for). But there are other complaints that are more like nitpicks or unreasonable issues. A national survey has pointed out some of the problems and weird expectations we have.

As much as 20% of customers have complained their food isn’t hot enough upon delivery. I’d be interested in the expectation for heat considering in some cases, delivery drivers are taking 15-20 minutes to get from restaurant to the home. The survey does say that the average distance traveled by delivery drivers is 1.5 miles, but it can be as much as three miles.

There are also complaints about deliveries taking longer than expected. The average person is willing to wait 40 minutes for delivery but some will wait for as long as an hour.

What I’m surprised about is that only 12% of people complain about incorrect food. I guess they’re not living in my area where you’re lucky to get an order right! The survey also shows that 12% of customers are understandably upset about restaurants ignoring notes or instructions.

But the complaints aren’t just from the customers. The delivery drivers also have their own legitimate complaints, many of them around tips. Drivers aren’t happy if they’re not tipped properly. However, there is the debate over what “properly” means.

With the use of apps and all the extra service fees, tipping is becoming trickier. And if an order is incorrect on a regular basis, you’re less likely to tip in the future — although I boycott anywhere after three incorrect orders.

Surprisingly, only 53% of customers will tip more in inclement weather. To be honest, I don’t order in during inclement weather since I don’t think it’s safe for the drivers to be on the road, but if you’re going to get them out, then the least you could do is tip better for it.
