Positively Snacking: iFit Elite trainer Gideon Akande reveals his favorite snacks

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - MARCH 26: A general view of an empty ClimbFit on March 26, 2020 in Sydney, Australia. ClimbFit gym is one of many indoor fitness facilities forced to close following the government's ban on indoor gatherings and non-essential services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With Australia's number of confirmed cases approaching 3000 and the national COVID-19 death toll now at 12, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced further measures to try and minimise the spread of coronavirus, requiring all libraries, museums, galleries, beauty salons, tattoo parlours, shopping centre food courts, auctions, open houses, amusement parks, arcades, indoor and outdoor play centres, swimming pools an indoor exercise venues to close on Wednesday. The closure of ClimbFit's two venues in Sydney has meant managing director Robbie Josephsen has had to lay off 50 casual staff members for the foreseeable future. The family-run business has been in operation for 25 years, but with no clear idea of when gyms will be able to reopen, the owners are unsure if they can continue to pay the rent on their two locations. What does a top-tier celebrity trainer and fitness ambassador snack on after working hard in the gym? Gideon Akande talks snacks with Guilty Eats.

A true athlete’s athlete, following a Division I football career and an initial post-college career in finance, Gideon Akande followed his heart and became a full-time personal trainer and group fitness instructor in 2010. A multi-time Chicago Golden Gloves Champion within the boxing realm, if you regularly use iFit-enabled exercise equipment through NordicTrack or ProForm, odds are that you have done one of Akande’s workouts.

With hundreds of million of people — if not billions of people — currently quarantined at home, it can be challenging to maintain optimal health. While finding a way to exercise within the confines of your home is important, diet is also a major part of the equation when it comes to both looking good and feeling good. Although there’s nothing wrong with a little indulgence from time to time, especially if you’re putting in the effort with your workouts.

In turn, I reached out to Gideon Akande, who is on both Instagram and Twitter via @GetFitWithGiddy, about his favorite snacks.

RXBAR

“I’m a big fan of RXBAR’s protein bar line for several reasons. They pack 12 grams of protein per bar and have over 10 flavors. They also travel well as an on-the-go snack, and they taste great!”

Lifesavers Gummies

“When I want to indulge, my go-to candy is Lifesaver Gummies. The gummy texture is just right — not too stale, not to gooey! Each bite has you salivating for the next and the gummy size makes sharing easy!”

More from Healthy Eating

Terra Plantain Chips

“Sweet. Salty. Crunchy. Enough said! This pantry staple is a perfect anytime option and has been a favorite of mine since I was a little boy!”

Popcorn, Indiana Kettlecorn Popcorn

“If you can’t tell already, I’m a fan of sweet snacks. Kettlecorn popcorn gives you all the feels of regular popcorn, but the salty-sweet mesh takes this hall of fame snack into LEGENDARY status!”

Chomps

“Think flavored grass-fed meat sticks that are packed with protein. You’re bound love at least one of their eight flavors and this product fits into most diets as it’s gluten-free, keto-friendly, non-GMO, and Whole30 Approved. Snack away!”
