Right now, our world is kind of crazy. People are stuck at home, some without ways to eat and survive. Recently, the National Guard stepped up even further than they already have, and began delivering food to those communities hit the hardest by this pandemic.
In Massachusetts, the National Guard has stepped up to help communities in need. They began in Chelsea, which to date, has been the area with the highest concentration of COVID-19 cases in the state. In fact, according to the Salvation Army, “the need in the city has tripled” and they plan on expanding even further to get even more meals for those truly suffering.
Each box that the National Guard gave out contained 35 meals.
According to WCVB News, in addition to the National Guard, a team of wonderful, selfless volunteers has decided to join in packing meals as well.

Some people are even lining up in groups of hundreds waiting for food that might be in scarce supply at the moment. Even people who work everyday jobs are struggling to make ends meet and buy the essentials, such as food and supplies.
Some other areas that are being hit the hardest include:
- Chicago (IL)
- Various counties in California
- Most of the East Coast (MA included)
Another organization that has been helping with COVID-19 relief is Feeding America. Since all of this craziness has begun, they have launched the Response Fund which not only supports those who are hungry, but supports food banks and soup kitchens across the country who provide such services.
They also work closely with government officials to help the 22 million kids who are out of school and rely on school meals, to still get breakfast, lunch, and dinner while they’re stuck at home.
Food banks, pantries, and soup kitchens are being hit pretty hard and with a bunch of people lining up and resources depleting fast. Feeding America has now began to provide those food banks with emergency grants to support local response efforts.
All in all, this isn’t going to happen overnight. We must all work together and remember that we’re in this together and will get through it together as well.
If you notice any people or groups stepping up in your area, let us know!
