Which foods and drinks aren’t allowed in the US?

Ever wonder what foods and drinks aren’t allowed in the US? Let’s take a look at the top 5 list and see what’s up!

With rules and regulations to food and drink products, there are bound to be some products that aren’t allowed in certain countries. Well, the US is no disappointment because there are many foods and drinks that have been banned in the US. Some have been brought back and re-allowed, while the rest have not and remain to be outcasts in our country.

There is much conversation as to why certain foods and drinks get banned. There are so many rules and regulations government and FDA-wise, that all products coming in, especially new ones are examined and looked at thoroughly and with great care!

Certain foods are banned for the products within it

In no particular order, we will be looking at and talking about 5 food and/or drink products that are banned in the US and what criteria throw them into such a category.

1. Haggis

Coming in first is Haggis. Now, I’m sure we’ve all heard of such a product, but not many know exactly what’s in it. Here are the gross main ingredients that are inside of Haggis: Sheep’s heart, liver and lungs, stomach (used as the sausage casing), spices, and onions. Thank god for the onions and spices, am I right?

Many people might think that this is gross, but do not understand the reason for being banned. Well, here you have it. Haggis has been banned in the US due to the fact that, back in 1971, the US put restrictions on eating sheep’s lungs.

If you still want to try this (who does), travel to Scotland and enjoy…or not.

2. Unpasteurized Milk

Coming in second is something that is still enjoyed in many parts of the world, including Europe. It’s not banned in all 50 states, but is banned in 17 I believe.

This is basically raw milk, which has been previously linked to the spread of E.coli, hence why it has been banned in parts of the US for a long while now.

3. Four Loko (Original)

Sure, you can still find some of these varieties in certain convenience stores around the US. However, its original product has still been banned, and here’s why.

This was the original form of a booze-based energy drink and contained roughly twice the caffeine as an 8-oz. Red Bull, and roughly as much booze as four cans of Budweiser. Holy Cow! Since then, back in 2014, when it was re-released, it’s very different than it once was, due to new rules and regulations per the FDA.

4. Cadbury Chocolate

Some people may see this one and think that I’m wrong for adding it to the list. However, it is banned for a reason. Sure, you can still buy US versions of Cadbury products, but thanks to different recipes, the chocolates in the UK are very different than the chocolates in the US (and a ton times better if you ask me).

The real reason that this particular product was banned was that, sometime in the 1980’s, Hershey bought all of the rights to Cadbury’s US operations and therefore banned the importation of the delicious British-based and infused chocolate(s).

5. Duff Beer (from The Simpsons)

This product was mainly being sold in Australia at the time of its banning, but still was being sold in the US as well! Yes, you read this right: Duff Beer from the Simpsons.

The reason for this particular drink being banned was simple and silly: the FDA said that it appealed too much to children and underage drinking due to where the product comes from on TV.

All in all, these products were all banned for a reason, silly or not. The list doesn’t stop here for sure! Go ahead and Google some other banned drinks in the US and let us know all about it down below!
