Is Subway’s sandwich bread not real bread?

A new report suggests that Subway’s sandwich bread is not real bread, and we’re confused
You read that correctly! According to a new report from NBC News, a court ruled that Subway’s sandwich bread was not considered real bread. Confused? So are we!
The source shares that a franchisee of the fast food chain was hoping for a big tax break, but instead, Ireland’s highest court ruled that the bread has “too much sugar” to be considered real bread. Now, call me crazy, but I love Subway’s bread!
The Supreme Court declared that, due to the high sugar content, the Subway loaves don’t meet the requirements for what is legally considered bread. Who would have thought?
Why were they trying to get a tax break in the first place? According to the case, bread should be exempt as a “staple” food, we can’t argue there! But we never thought it wouldn’t be considered bread.
Subway: Bread is bread
What do you think? In my opinion, if it looks like bread and tastes like bread, it’s bread! And it helps that it’s delicious, too! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to order my favorite sub from Subway!
Jokes aside, it turns out that the sugar content in bread can’t exceed 2% of its weight. How much do these loaves of bread have? A whopping 10%! Yeah, big difference, but are the rules fair? It’s not up to me to decide, just for me to enjoy. However, we may not be getting a healthy meal like we previously believed. It makes you wonder if getting a sub from this fast food joint is truly that much better than a burger elsewhere.
What are your thoughts?
This is the case for all of Subway’s heated sandwich breads, by the way, including Italian, nine-grain wheat, honey oat, and others.
