5 foods perfect for a Friday the 13th marathon
By D. Goodman
If you’re looking for that perfect food for your annual Friday the 13th movie marathon in honor of Halloween, we’ve got you covered.
When it comes to movies that can get people in the right mood for Halloween, one that is almost always at the top of the list is Friday the 13th. The story of the unstoppable killing machine that is Jason Voorhees and his hatred of campers who partake in premarital sex has become a thing of legend over the decades since the series started in 1980.
The original Friday the 13th , which ironically didn’t even feature Jason as the killer, has spawned no less than 11 sequels and each one has its fans. Except for Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. That movie is total crap and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
Personally I love Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and make a point of watching it every Halloween. I know others who will have a three-day movie marathon and watch each and every film in the series as soon as October arrives. Which leaves a question: what is the perfect food for a Friday the 13th movie marathon?
Five perfect foods to enjoy while watching Friday the 13th.
Lucky for you, we’re here to offer our expert guidance. What follows, in no particular order, are five items that are ideal for watching either one Friday the 13th movie or all 12. They will keep you munching as Jason does his thing and are also great for a viewing party as Halloween gets closer or if you want to watch Jason Vs. Freddy all by yourself in the dark.
Hot Dogs
The bulk of the Friday the 13th movies take place at Camp Crystal Lake, a summer camp located in New Jersey. You would think they would have closed it by the time the body count got into the double digits but no …
Anyway, since the movies take place at a summer camp, hot dogs are pretty much a no brainer when it comes to the perfect Friday the 13th food. You can grill them or steam them or prepare them however you want. If you want to get into the spirit of Halloween, putting ketchup on them with give them an extra dose of gore perfect for a movie marathon.

S’mores
Another easy option are s’mores. These pretty much scream summer camp and fit in perfectly with the camping theme that run throughout the Friday the 13th films. For an added bit of fun, add some strawberry topping to the marshmallow and chocolate to give the dessert a gooey, bloody effect.
Chili
Another camping mainstay, a nice bowl of hot chili is always a crowd pleaser. You can make it as bland or scorchingly hot as you want, but make sure to use red kidney beans and maybe add some red food coloring to give it a special look. Once the blood and guts start to fly on screen, it should make everyone watching give it a second look.
An Adult Beverage
Since the Friday the 13th films are all R-rated and intended for adults, there is no reason to not enjoy an adult beverage (or three) while watching the movie. And let’s be honest, if you plan to watch all 12 films, you’re going to need a drink to get through some of the really bad ones.
There are literally hundreds of cocktails that would be perfect for the occasion, so just pick what you like. Or if you prefer a challenge, the website Halloweenerrific has just the thing. A list of 12 custom cocktails, one for each film in the franchise. Each one is easy to make and is inspired by that particular film. Personally I love the sound of the The Voorhees Corpse Reviver.
Pizza
This one is specific to my favorite movie of the franchise, Jason Takes Manhattan. If you’re going to watch Jason go to New York City (which is way more entertaining than it sounds), then you need some really good thin-crust New York style pizza to go with it. You can enjoy the pizza and watch Jason wander around Times Square, looking for kids to kill.
