Burger King is bringing a new entry into the fast-food Chicken Sandwich Wars. As reported by Chewboom, Burger King will be featuring a new Hand-Breaded Chicken Sandwich. Unfortunately, Burger King is still making us wait a while before we can get our hands on one.

The new chicken sandwich has been under development since 2019. Burger King had been testing the sandwich in limited markets since September 2020. At some point in 2021, all of us will be able to try the new sandwich.

The BK chicken sandwich will feature a thick-cut white meat chicken breast which will be breaded by hand. The no-frills sandwich is served on a potato bun along with pickles and a savory “signature” sauce. Personally, I prefer mayo over another sauce, but BK didn’t ask me.

Burger King is looking to move to the front of the line with its chicken sandwich

The new sandwich will come in both an Original and Spicy version. For those of you looking for a little crunch or freshness, you can also choose a version that includes lettuce and tomato. Once the new Hand-Breaded Chicken Sandwich arrives, it will replace the existing line of BK chicken sandwiches.

BK is betting on the hand-breaded advantage as the differentiator for its new chicken sandwich. Burger King is calling its sandwich the end of “burger joint quality” sandwiches. In a press release, CMO Ellie Doty said “We’ll take the time to get it right and our guests will definitely taste the difference.”

Although Burger King has not given us details about the launch date besides “later this year,” the company is happy about taking the time to get the right sandwich into our hands. They are promising the sandwich will be “worth the wait.” If this is true, having more than a year of development should result in one heck of a chicken sandwich. Hopefully, it blows our minds.
