The shape of McDonald’s Chicken Mcnuggets is not random
Have you ever looked at McDonald’s Chicken Mcnuggets and wondered what shape they were supposed to be? Well, now you no longer need to guess because it turns out there are four distinct shapes McDonald’s uses for their nuggets. Apparently, they aren’t just random. Who knew?
What are the shapes? They include the boot, the ball, the bowtie (sometimes called the bone), and the bell. Why these all start with a B is still a mystery but now, next time you look at your nuggets, you can say exactly what it looks like.

This information has been available since 2014 when McDonald’s Canada posted a video to YouTube showing exactly how the nuggets are made. It all started when someone asked if nuggets were made with “pink goop.” Luckily, no pink goop is involved.
McDonald’s chicken mcnuggets come in 4 different shapes
The chicken meat is ground and then cut into one of the four shapes. The nuggets are then covered in a light batter and then run through a second batter so they are completely coated. They are then par-fried and sent to McDonald’s’ all over the world to be fully cooked inside the restaurant.
Once they get the batter and are fully fried, the shapes may be less obvious than when they’re first cut out in the factory. It’s kind of like when you make cut-out cookies. They look great when you put them in but once they expand, the shape gets a bit wonky.
The batter and the frying process does that to the shapes of the Chicken McNuggets. But you should still be able to pick out a boot or two!
