Airheads launched new chicken sandwich with candy bun
When you think of Airheads, you probably think of the long, stretchy, chewy candy that comes in a bunch of flavors. I’m guessing you don’t think about chicken sandwiches. Well, that’s about to change. Why? Because Airheads launched a chicken sandwich on National Fried Chicken Day where the bun is made entirely of Airheads candy.

The new Airhead Chicken Sandy consists of fried chicken, coleslaw, spicy mayo, and pickles. The bun is made of sweet and sour Airheads Xtremes. It was available only on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Frances’ Deli & Brunchery in Chicago. They were making them until they ran out.
I would like to know immediately who in research and development came up with this idea and why wasn’t it shot down immediately?? Who has this type of power to come up with a candy bun fried chicken sandwich and actually have it supported by your bosses and made into a real thing?
Airheads reveals new chicken sandwich with candy bun
I get the idea of sweet and savory, but that really only works a few ways. Caramel and salt, bacon and chocolate, or even donuts and hamburgers, but the kind of sweet that is Airheads with fried chicken? I don’t know.
Especially with the addition of coleslaw and spicy mayo. It feels like mixing things that were never meant to be together for a reason.
Sadly (or not), it doesn’t look like there is a plan to bring this back anytime soon. But according to a representative from Airheads via Food & Wine, they are fully supportive of people trying this at home. How you’re supposed to weave together Airheads into a bun, I have no idea. It’s hard to tell how Airheads even did it.
