While there are plenty of delicious desserts sold at fast food places, it’s tough to find many items that are vegan. Dairy is a go-to ingredient when making many sweet treats, and despite how wonderful they taste, they can’t be consumed by everyone. If you’re craving a pastry or some iced cream but aren’t willing to pay the big bucks for a vegan restaurant, you luckily can find what you’re looking for at a few well-known chains. One of those is even McDonald’s.
Although the iced cream at McDonald’s is not vegan, they do have one dessert item that you can shamelessly devour if you’re avoiding animal products. Fortunately, the McDonald’s baked apple pie is vegan! As reported by Thrillest, the tasty and very popular menu item does not contain milk, butter, or any meat. That means it’s both vegan and vegetarian.
If you head to the fast food chain’s website, you’ll find the exact list of ingredients and allergens for the McDonald’s apple pie, which you can check out below.
"Ingredients: Apples (Apples, Ascorbic Acid, Salt, Citric Acid), Enriched Flour (Bleached Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Sugar, Palm Oil, Water, Apple Juice Concentrate, Modified Food Starch, Invert Syrup, Contains 2% or Less: Yeast, Salt, Cinnamon, Sunflower Lecithin, L-cysteine (Dough Conditioner), Yeast Extract, Enzyme, Beta-carotene (Color).Contains: Wheat."
Can you eat vegan at McDonald’s?
And good news, fast food lovers! The McDonald’s baked apple pie is not their only item that’s vegan. Unfortunately, their french fries do contain beef flavoring, but there are still other delicious meals that are safe for people who don’t eat dairy or meat.
Women’s Health Magazine has a nice list of McDonald’s products that are vegan. If you’re hungry for a nice breakfast or quick snack, you can eat their fruit and maple oatmeal or their apple slices. In the mood for a salad? The southwest salad, when ordered without chicken or cheese, is vegan, as is their side salad.
As always, be sure to ask someone at your local McDonald’s or other fast food joints before consuming anything you think could not be vegan. Each location might vary on how food is prepared in proximity to their meat and dairy products, so it’s better to play it safe and inquire.
