Taco Bell knows that when people go to a fast food style restaurant, they expect and want french fries. “You want fries with that?” has gone beyond just being a catchy phrase and has come to represent pretty much eating at any fast food place.
The problem for The Bell? They don’t offer fries on their menu, at least not all the time.
Taco Bell has fries in the form of their immensely popular Nacho Fries but like the McDonald’s McRib, they come and go from the menu on a periodic basis. If you happen to want a burrito or Mexican Pizza when they aren’t available, you’re out of luck.
However, if a new report from CNN is to be believed, that may be changing.
No word exactly when Nacho Fries may be available all the time at Taco Bell.
They are reporting that Taco Bell is seriously considering making Nacho Fries a permanent menu item as a way to compete with McDonald’s and Burger King. While The Bell does excellent numbers in terms of dinner, they are apparently losing out when it comes to the lunch crowd.
According to Mark King, CEO of Taco Bell, they are well aware of the disparity and think they can compete with the best of them.
"“If you were to look at how we compete against McDonald’s in dinner and late night, we’re absolutely even. When you look at breakfast and lunch, we’re significantly behind. There’s a big opportunity just in those two dayparts to increase our business significantly over the coming years.”"
Part of that plan is evidently making Nacho Fries available all the time nationwide. Sure, they would lose the buzz that surrounds the item’s return every year, but they might see their sales at lunchtime increase.
Currently it isn’t known when this might happen, but a safe bet might be early next year in the spring. Time will tell.
