For almost as long as there has been a drive-thru, McDonald’s has been the king of the fast food breakfast. This is despite chains like Wendy’s doing everything to try and compete in the same space and coming up short.
That said, it’s easy to see why McDonald’s can’t be beat as the Egg McMuffin is pretty much the perfect breakfast sandwich. As a result most fast food chains have avoided trying to compete directly with the iconic sandwich. Instead they use croissants, taco shells and just about anything except any kind of English Muffin.
That is, until now. Because it seems that Wendy’s has decided to try and go toe to toe with the Egg McMuffin by introducing their own line of breakfast sandwiches what are served on, you guessed it, English Muffins.
The new Wendy’s English Muffin Breakfast Sandwiches will be available in August.
The new Wendy’s English Muffin Breakfast Sandwiches will initially be available in two varieties, one with sausage and one with the greatest breakfast meat ever created, bacon.
The Sausage English Muffin Sandwich will include a fresh cracked egg topped with American cheese, a grilled sausage patty and a new buttery spread that mixes the flavors of brown butter and black pepper all on, obviously, a toasted English muffin.
The Bacon English Muffin Sandwich includes all of the above but they swap out sausage for oven-bakes applewood smoked bacon. And as you know, there is nothing that isn’t made better with bacon.
The new sandwiches will be available nationwide starting August 22 and to celebrate, Wendy’s is offering a special deal through their app. You can get $2 off one by redeeming the $2 off Breakfast Combo offer in the app until September 3.
Will Wendy’s be able to compete with the Egg McMuffin? I would never count them out, especially considering how well they use their social media accounts, but it’ll be an uphill battle. But anytime someone expands their breakfast offerings it’s a win for consumers.
