Garlic has been considered a miracle food for quite some time and there’s very good reason for that.

It has health benefits you wouldn’t believe, and it tastes great too. Now how can you beat that?

Healthy food doesn’t always taste that great, really. It is often the bad foods that pack in all the flavor that have you coming back for more and more, but garlic can be added to some of the best dishes known to humanity and they can make a naughty item of food that much healthier.

But why is it that Garlic is so healthy for the human body?

According to a piece at bhf.or.uk, garlic has properties that can help prevent against serious illness and other health issues.

It is exceptionally good for lowering blood pressure and even cholesterol. Allicin is the chemical that is found in garlic, and it is this chemical that is why garlic is such a miracle power food and healing agent. Some even believe that it helps in curing colds.

Back off, Dracula!

Garlic was known to ancient Egypt and the population there used garlic as a seasoning item. In history, garlic is also known in fable to keep those vampires away.

A funny story about Garlic…

I remember working with my dad at a local reception hall when I was young, and there was gentleman who used to visit the kitchen crew as we prepped for banquets to be held later in the evening on a Saturday night.

This particular old man, who lived to be quite old in fact, was a huge proponent for garlic and truthfully, the poor guy smelled like it. He often told us about how he would eat cloves of the stuff every morning…raw; he’d chew them and swallow them.

He called it his pill. He also told us that his wife got on his case big time about the smell. He stated comically, imitating his wife as best as he could, reciting her popular line that ran like a joke amongst their family…

“I can smell you ten blocks away and always know when you’ll be home,” she’d say. We all laughed but we all knew deep inside that she was right. We could always tell beforehand when he was coming.

Well, at least he kept those mythological vampires at bay…as well as some serious health issues.

It is easy to throw into recipes

Many take a vitamin garlic pill to stave off those cholesterol pills and blood pressure pills, and really that’s a good way to go if you do not like the taste of the stuff or the smell, per se.

But in reality, there are a lot of great recipes in which this miracle food item can be used.

For example, you can mince quite a bit of this and throw it into a sauce preparation or even a sauté, and if seasoned correctly, the taste dissolves quite a bit.

But what about those of us who like the taste? Those of us who say, “Sorry sweetheart, I’ll smooch you later, cause right now it’s all about me and this falafel with garlic puree?” What about us?
