The busiest travel season of the year is soon approaching. If you are planning to fly, put Alaska Airlines on your radar. This airline has been in business for over 90 years and has flights to 124 cities both domestic and international. The airline just announced its newest food and beverage partnership with Stumptown Coffee Roasters and travelers will be very excited!

Stumptown Coffee is a Portland, Oregon based coffee company that opened its flagship coffee shop in 1999. Since then, they have expanded into several major cities including New York City, Los Angeles and even Kyoto, Japan.

Stumptown Coffee has created a custom blend of coffee for Alaska Airlines. In a press release that was shared with Guilty Eats, I learned that our taste buds react differently at higher altitudes and food and beverages may taste different when we are flying in an airplane than when we are dining on the ground. This was taken into account when developing the new coffee.

Holler Mountain, one of Stumptown’s best-selling coffees was used as the base of the new coffee. According to the press release, the custom blend coffee is “exceptionally smooth and balanced, with aromatic notes of toasted marshmallows, browned butter and toffee with delicate hints of citrus and cherry.” This coffee is alleged to be delicious enough to drink black or with creamer or oat milk, both of which Alaska Airlines carries.

Before earning the seal of approval, the coffee blend was put under extensive testing. Over 20 variables were tested, including the grind, the amount of coffee and even the filter paper used. They even made sure the coffee paired well with the inflight milk, as well as the Biscoff cookies from the snack cart.

The first to try the new Stumptown coffee blend are those travelers on flights to/from the state of Alaska. However, by December 1 of 2023, every Alaska Airlines flight will be serving the new custom blend coffee. If you are traveling on Alaska Airlines in the near future, you’ll be able to enjoy a cup of the new coffee blend!
