Chick-fil-A Banana Pudding Shake Review: Sugar overpowers this banana beverage
By Trey Weston
Lately, it seems as if banana-inspired items are all the rage. From the Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry to the announcement of Monkey Business being named flavor of the month for September, the fruit has been making its mark in the food world. But perhaps the biggest banana news in some time came when Chick-fil-A announced the return of the Banana Pudding Shake for the first time in 13 years.
As I do with most new milkshakes, I went to try this one. I visited my nearest Chick-fil-A and grabbed the highly-anticipated returning drink, hoping it would cool me down amid the scorching hot weather throughout my area.
According to a Fortune article, the shake contains 97 grams of sugar. And right on cue, I could instantly feel the sugar pumping through my body. The shake tasted like a Banana Laffy Taffy drink mixed with Vanilla Wafers, and I was not a huge fan of the taste.
While the younger me would have been a big fan of this, the older me couldn't even finish this one. I know you don't get shakes to avoid sugar, but it felt like the extreme sweetness made it hard to finish the drink. I am also much more of a fan of strawberry or orange than banana.
That said, I feel the best shake Chick-fil-A has to offer is its Peppermint Chip Milkshake, which makes its annual appearance during the holiday season. It does a great job of mixing the peppermint taste with the chocolate for a drink that pairs perfectly with the Chicken Tortilla Soup.
However, a few months remain until we can enjoy that flavor. Today, it is all about bananas, specifically the Banana Pudding Shake. And while I may be in the minority for not enjoying it, I found the sugary taste overwhelming.
