McDonald’s is embracing the age of the future so much that you are going to see robots, robots everywhere!

Don’t panic, Skynet hasn’t taking over McDonald’s. You will not see the T-500, Wall-E, R2-D2 or any other famous robot working in your fast food restaurant. No these robots are a little simpler than that, they are self-service kiosk centers.

A robot that might be simple but one that is still taking over McDonald’s; as you are now much more likely to come into contact with a self-service kiosk than an employee.

According to Forbes, all McDonald’s restaurants are to have the self-service kiosks implemented by the year 2020. Other fast food restaurant chains are expected to follow in McDonald’s footsteps but the golden arches are the ones leading the way.

This type of technological change is to offer the customer more convenience and ease of service. If you think about it, rather than standing at the till staring at the board wondering what to order, fully aware you are causing a large queue. You can you use the kiosk at your leisure while other customers use theirs.

Of course the downside of this type of change is how it affects the low entry level jobs. With more technology being brought into the workplace, the fear is fewer jobs will be available. The counter argument to this however is with the addition of the kiosk, less man power is needed at the front, and therefore more can be done behind the scenes, so improving the customer experience in another way.

That decision, in terms if utilizing what man power they have left over is down to McDonald’s and other chains who decide to embrace the technology.
