KFC created the absurd in a recent marketing stunt that has given them everlasting glory.

The key to business is marketing. Or that is what business experts will tell you anyway.  And there is something to that, you can have a world changing brand and idea but if nobody knows about it, then nobody will care.

This is where the marketing comes in, spreading the message of your product, or your brand, far and wide. The more powerful the marketing is the more popular your product could be.

Creating powerful marketing is no easy task however. Some marketing campaigns involve powerful, heartfelt messages. Others are designed to make you laugh; whereas KFC went for the absurd in their most recent marketing campaign.

They decided to create a Colonel Sanders effigy for cats. Yes that’s right, an effigy of the Colonel that cats could climb all over. Then they live streamed those effigy climbing cats on Facebook for four hours.

It sounds bizarre, and it really was bizarre, but it was also genius at the same time. After all bizarre sells and people love cats. Those cats were also available for adoption.

Hundreds of thousands of people tuned in to watch the live stream, most of them probably wondering what on earth it was they were watching. Those hundreds of thousands of people, probably went and told their friends about the video, so it could even be millions of people who seen the video, and in turn the KFC brand.

So by KFC going for the absurd in their marketing campaign, they achieved glory in the process.

I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
