New ways to recycle what we use are always being looked into and we could be seeing McDonald’s cooking oil power our trucks.

Imagine that, one minute the McDonald’s cooking oil is frying our fries, the next minute it us firing up our trucks. Recycling methods are being looked into more and more these days, and McDonald’s cooking oil fueling our trucks is one recycling method currently being look into.

It is happening all the way out in Mumbai and looking at expanding into Bengaluru as well according to NDTV. Still in the pilot stages of the recycling project, the idea is to recycle the used cooking oil from McDonald’s restaurants and convert it into biodiesel.

This biodiesel would then be used to fuel and drive the delivery trucks of their refrigerated goods. Company officials behind the project have also made claims that the fuel produced from the McDonald’s cooking oil is cleaner and produces lower carbon emissions, as much as 75%.

With the project taking place out in Mumbai, it would be sometime before we ever saw the recycling project over here. However, if it was successful over in Mumbai and the claims they made are accurate there could be no logical reason why it would not work here.

McDonald’s have also been strong advocates of recycling, all of their packing is recyclable and some restaurants currently recycle their cooking oil residue already. If anything, powering trucks would just be a step up for the fast food giants.
