KFC Vietnam adds vegan option: Is it time to add it permanently everywhere?
By Callum Gunn
KFC Vietnam has added two vegan options to its menu. This is to capitalize on a religious holiday, but is it time to add something permanently everywhere?
Out of all the fast food joints, there’s one that solely relies on meat: KFC. The clue is sort of in the name: Kentucky Fried Chicken. However, isn’t it about time a vegan option became available since this is a lifestyle choice that many are now making? KFC Vietnam has recently brought in a vegan option but that was only to capitalize on a religious holiday.
There are two vegan options currently on the menu. You can get a vegan “chicken” burger or, a rice salad with shredded vegan “chicken.” The options are available until the end of the lunar calendar. This is a time that the Buddhists abstain from meat, so it’s not surprising that KFC Vietnam wants to offer a reason to still come to their chicken fast food joint.

Guilty Eats has already reported that KFC UK is looking at adding permanent vegan options by 2019. This is a start, but what about the rest of the world? KFC Canada has thought about it, but still not got to offering anything permanent.
Why? It’s not like there isn’t a market. Maybe these trials and limited time offers around various parts of the world will prove that there is definitely a bunch of customers that want the vegan option.
