Prepare yourselves as the Starbucks ‘red cups’ are coming back
By Kareem Gantt
Brace yourselves as Starbucks is rolling back out the infamous red cups for the holidays.
Who can forget the time when Starbucks rolled out a red “holiday” cup, and everyone nearly lost their cotton freakin’ minds?
Well, prepare for more of the same this year.
That’s right, Starbucks is bringing their infamous red cups back to a cafe near you, and whether or not you’re on the side where the cups don’t matter, or you’re on the side that thinks the red cups are an affront to the holidays, rest assured that there will be strong feelings about this cup when it’s released on Nov. 7.
To be honest (and really, when am I not honest on here), I always thought the “controversy” surrounding the Starbucks‘ red cups were absurd, to say the least. Christmas wasn’t canceled, kids got their Christmas presents from Santa (i.e Mom and Dad), and the world was alright.
So what was the big deal over the red cups? Isn’t red a prominent color of the holiday season? I believe it is — so Starbucks really wasn’t disrespecting the spirit of the season, when you come to think about it, which is what makes that “red cups” controversy even more bizarre.
But, we live in a world where people must find something to complain about, and for those folks, that something was the red cups. Kudos to Starbucks for not caving in to the pressure to stop serving coffee within one of their red cups. That was a bold move from the chain, a bold move that honestly wasn’t even that bold of a move.
As you can gather, I am excited about the red cups coming back to Starbucks. They’re fun, festive, and really go with the whole vibe of the holidays. Plus, they’re reusable, and who doesn’t love that?
As an added bonus, Starbucks also shared in an email to their rewards members that if you have one of these reusable cups with you and you are flying Alaska airlines, you can get priority boarding for a very limited time. According to the email that went out on Nov. 6, “from 11/7-11/10, enjoy priority boarding when you bring a Starbucks holiday cup to your Alaska gate.” We don’t know about you, but we think this might be one of the ultimate perks of getting our hands on one of these reusable red cups.
