Doritos wants to help seniors missing out on their graduation by not only giving them a platform to speak, but also tuition assistance.

With seniors missing out on so many of the time-honored traditions that come with the end of an academic journey, a number of companies and celebrities have stepped up to help in some small way. And of those companies and brands, Doritos has stepped up to give some seniors a platform to speak and even a chance at tuition assistance.

In a press release from May 1, Doritos announced that they were going to be honoring seniors as Doritos valedictorian. Not only will some seniors have an opportunity to give their valedictorian speeches via an iHeartMedia Podcast Series, but some of these seniors will also get $50,000 to help with the cost of their future education.

And while a solid GPA is important, the Doritos Valedictorian is based on so much more than grades and how well someone did in school. It is also about having an important message to share with not only your fellow students, but also the world. (It is a podcast after all.)

In order to be chosen as a Doritos Valedictorian, graduating seniors must submit a two-minute, short version, of the speech they would read as part of being a class valedictorian. Submissions must be received by May 4, and sent to GradVoices@Doritos.com.

Five graduating seniors will be chosen as the Doritos valedictorian, and given the opportunity to give their full speeches via the iHeartMedia Podcast Series. These five seniors will also be awarded the $50,000 worth of tuition assistance.

According to the SVP of marketing at Frito-Lay, “Doritos is a brand that’s long been about giving a platform and voice to that next generation, so we wanted to help take that platform to the next level.”

We may consider Doritos to be a tasty chip, but clearly they are so much more than that, as it seems they are also a company that wants to help make a difference.

What do you think of the idea of the Doritos Valedictorian? Do you think more companies should step up to help make the seniors of 2020 have a more memorable (in a good way) graduation? Tell us what you think in the comments.
