Hormel and Jack in the Box release food-scented face masks

2020 has had a lot of strange occurrences. The toilet paper shortage. Going on quests to find Lysol wipes like you’re Indiana Jones. And, of course, the wearing of face masks wherever we go. But it just got a whole lot weirder because now you can get face masks that are scented like food.

While there are tons of companies making face masks with their logos on them, now there are food companies who are making masks that smell like their products. And no, this isn’t like Betty Crocker making a cake-scented face mask. It’s 2020. It has to be weirder than that.

Places like Jack in the Box and Hormel are creating face masks that smell like their food. Jack in the Box (no joke) has a face mask that smells like fried chicken. They did this to help promote their plant-based “Unchicken Sandwich.” That doesn’t make it any less strange.

The face masks smell like bacon or fried chicken

Hormel also has a mask that smells like meat (ew). Their mask is scented like bacon. That’s not even the worst part, though. They have named this mask “Black Label Breathable Bacon.” Oh, the poor, poor marketing person that thought that up. And this is how they describe this new baconlicious mask:

"The latest in pork-scented technology with two-ply multi-fiber cloth to keep the delicious smell of bacon always wrapped around your nose"

Even bacon, which people seem to love in a sometimes abnormal way, would probably get old after smelling it for hours on end. Also…I assume other people can smell your mask too. So they get the aroma whether they like it or not. And do you really want your face to smell like bacon or fried chicken all day?

The masks aren’t all that attractive either. The Hormel mask has a black background with strips of bacon all over it. The Jack in the Box mask has a white background with the Jack in the Box logo, the words “Chicken-Scented,” black, white, and orange chicken sandwiches, and the little Jack in the Box dude on fire all over it. Does everyone really need to know that it’s chicken-scented? We can’t just keep that to ourselves?

If you want the Hormel mask, you can enter to win one on breathablebacon.com. If you’re interested in the Jack in the Box mask, they will be free on Friday, Oct 23. Get one while you can!
