Tomatillo’s offers quick and easy Tex-Mex dining in southwest Florida
When it comes to finding tasty Tex-Mex, you might think that anything outside of the southwestern states will be lacking. However, Tomatillo’s in Venice, Florida wants to change that.
As someone who has lived in Texas for years, I am picky when it comes to choosing Tex-Mex food outside of places like Texas, California, Arizona, and New Mexico. But thankfully, I have found plenty of smaller restaurants that live up to the hype across the United States, but in the southwestern portion of Florida, the winner is Tomatillo’s.
The thing that I love about this small restaurant in Venice, Florida is the fact that it offers a drive-thru, making it easy to grab and go. And you can even call ahead and order for pickup, which is convenient.
Obviously, the food itself is the real draw. And this menu offers everything from Build-Your-Own Burritos to Taco Salads and more. They even offer a Taco Tuesday deal every week, which saves you $0.50 per taco.

As someone who has no desire to ever cook fish at home, it was nice to order something different but delicious recently. For me, different meant getting Tomatillo’s Quesadilla with fish. The fish is perfectly seasoned and then grilled up before being broken into smaller pieces in the quesadilla. And they keep things simple with their quesadillas, going with a classic melted cheese and pieces of scallions. For dipping, the dish comes with sour cream and fresh pico de gallo, but I also ask for the Tomatillo Ranch Sauce (it’s a must try).
Another delicious menu item is their Taco Salad. It’s simple, but delicious. It comes in a Tortilla bowl and is also built to order, but if you want it their way, you get lettuce, black olives, tomatoes, and corn, as well as your choice of protein (beef, chicken, fish, etc). You can also add black beans, grilled peppers & onions, or even grilled mushrooms to really take it up a notch.
Considering much of the menu is made to order, you know you are getting food that is fresh and perfect for you. And as an added bonus, everything is reasonably priced. A taco salad with chicken or beef will cost you just $6.75, while a pork burrito will run you $7.50 (and remember this is made to order by you).
