Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi: Which soda satisfies your thirst?
When the heat of the day bears down on you, or you’ve exerted yourself considerably, there’s perhaps nothing better than a deliciously sweet soda over gloriously cold ice cubes to satisfy the thirst you work up. And considering that Coca-Cola and Pepsi are two of the top sodas in this industry, it’s safe to say that they do quite well in satisfying a need for something cold and refreshing. But which one does it better?
I’ve set out to find out the answer to that question, all the while looking into the wonder that is soda, and does it really satisfy thirst, or is very much like a show of magic, wonder and trickery very reminiscent to the magic shows of Criss Angel…is it all just an illusion?
Which soda is best to satisfy your seemingly unquenchable thirst? Pepsi-Cola or Pepsi?
An age-old debate
For decades, people have been debating which is the better soda and fans on either side have valid points, but these two companies sure have been going at it in the media and on national television for years. Who can forget those campaigns, both companies firing shots at one another, trying to one-up the other going back and forth in those now classic commercials on TV?
And this debate really didn’t have anything to do with a lot of what we’re going to get into in this piece; back then, it was simply which one tasted better to whom, and for what reason.
Coca-Cola was introduced way, way back in 1886…an amazing 135 years ago. The word ‘ancient’ comes to mind, but not quite.
Anyways, to say that it’s been on the minds and at the lips of people for generations would be certainly putting it too mildly.
Pepsi is slightly younger, but not by much, it having been introduced in 1898. Although Coca-Cola came out first, Pepsi had no trouble gaining momentum.
Soda or water?
To quench your thirst, I’m sure that anyone knows that nothing compares to water. If you don’t think so, that merely means you’ve never been extremely thirsty. (You can solve that by purposefully losing yourself for a few days in the Sahara Desert, but I don’t suggest it. Trust me that you’ll go to water very much like a man on fire would, only for obviously different reasons.
But when it comes to quenching your thirst and wanting to love the taste of your chosen beverage while you do that, I totally understand not going to water. No arguments there, friends.
In that case, soda can definitely be that go-to for many out there; in fact it is, hence the purpose of this piece. And the only question left to ask is: Does it really do the trick? Or is it worsening the problem?
To drink or not to drink? That is the question…
According to an article at cookinglight.com, soda is the worst thing to go to when thirsty, as it dehydrates you further. The reason behind this: When you sweat and grow thirsty, your body loses a whole mess of stuff that just cannot be replaced with the incredible amounts of sugar and caffeine.
Gatorade obviously comes close, as it replaces the body with electrolytes, but the aforementioned H2O is best overall.
Sorry to disappoint.
So which is it?
In the end, we’ve proven that neither will quench your thirst logically speaking. But does personal preference ever have a say. Of course it does, dear readers. That’s why at the end of these pieces, we always ask you what you think, as no matter what anyone else tell you out there, we here at Guilty Eats always value your opinion. It always matters to us and always will.
I know people that actually get satisfied with a nice cold can of Coca-Cola on a hot day, but in the end, for me (now I won’t be going with Option A or Option B per se, but secret Option C), nothing is better than a cold tall glass (full of ice) of Diet Pepsi. It’s always been my favorite.
Okay, okay, it’s still Pepsi, but as I said, the diet brand does it more for me; always has, and with that option, you can always be glad that you’re not ingesting all that sugar, can’t you?
Now comes the time for you to let us know which you feel quenches your thirst, dear readers.
