It has been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yes, the old adage definitely makes a lot of sense. But what about those that can eat breakfast foods at any meal throughout the day…what then? Well, for those that absolutely adore breakfast, we’ve decided to take a gander at some of the best places to get your breakfast or snack…we’re ranking the best fast food breakfasts, folks.

You’re run of the mill mom and pop location is of course very good, but what about when you can’t stop off at your favorite place? Then you’re going to have to make do with fast food places like the ones that follow…some of which stay open late and even serve breakfast all day long. But don’t fret, as they offer great breakfast options.

My obsession with breakfast came at a young age when on a class field trip, my classmates and I were taken to a maple farm sugar shack in northern Quebec. Of course the star ingredient was maple syrup—authentic maple syrup—and every breakfast food imaginable was on the table, family style…a smorgasbord of options, dear readers. I was hooked with breakfast foods ever since.

Believe it or not, there are tons of great fast food breakfast places or fast food chains that have breakfast items on the menu at least, so you’re in luck if you’re anything like me and can eat breakfast for lunch, dinner and even a snack.

The only problem is, not everyone does breakfast justice, but these following options do their very best and they come very close to a classic breakfast that I can enjoy and you can too…and they take me back to the classic breakfasts of my youth up north at the maple farm sugar shack.

Here are 8 of the absolute best fast food breakfast options, Guilty Eaters…

8. Starbucks

Okay, so coffee is the most essential ingredient to starting the day off on the right foot and Starbucks is certainly a great option. But what about food? Well, Starbucks isn’t all that bad when it comes to food or even their drinks; they have an assortment of sweets and sandwiches to choose from.

The word decent comes to mind, but really, if you want to start the day off on a sweet note, which is sometimes okay, then a cup of coffee with some of their biscotti is always a good option…I have always found biscotti to be quite sustaining in the cookie department.

7. Subway

If you’re looking for something a little healthier in the morning…maybe trying to watch the old cholesterol, then their egg white flat bread sandwich option is a good way to go.

6. Dunkin Donuts

I’ve said this before, but unfortunately the chain has been wiped out in Montreal. Perhaps because of the massive success of Tim Horton’s, who we’ll be getting to later in this piece.

But I was a fan of the chain and went often. Their coffee was great, their drinks as well, and their sandwich options too went a long way in the satisfaction department. Great for a snack or to start the day off right. I still stop off when I’m anywhere else in North America.

5. Burger King

Okay, so not the absolute best breakfast option, but they do it better than most of the other top five fast food restaurants to my estimation outside of a chosen one that ranks higher on this list, as we will get to in a snap.

Top options include the Sausage, Egg and Cheese Croissan’wich, the Ham Cheesy Breakfast Melt, the Fully Loaded Biscuit Bacon Sausage and Ham and of course the Egg-Normous Burrito.

4. A&W

Okay, so not all locations have breakfast, but it’s wildly popular in Canada. The breakfast option is good, but really what makes this place come in at a higher spot on this list is their breakfast plate option.

Now this one’s special. You get it on a plate and really you get the feeling of a homey breakfast dish, the caliber you were likely to get in a 50s era diner off on the side of some dusty road somewhere. Worth it to try…even if you gave to drive a ways to get to a location that serves breakfast, or at least the breakfast plate.

3. Jack In The Box

Now we’re getting closer to the nitty-gritty, folks. The last installment above lands us at the top four of course and in the top three are locations that deliver. Standard, yes, mass-produced, yes. Cookie cutter style approach, yes, but they deliver every time out. The word stability comes to mind here. And there sure is nothing wrong with stability.

On the Jack In The Box menu, the Supreme Croissant stands out and the Meat Lovers Breakfast Burrito. Excellent for before and after the gym…sandwiching your workouts with one heck of a heavy dose of protein—not to mention epic taste. Happy lifting, dear readers.

2. McDonald’s

Ah, the old standby. When you are out there on the long, dusty roads of North America (or overseas), and you get that hunger…there’s nothing like seeing the golden arches up there in the sky… a promising beacon of hope, really.

And as for the menu…really where do I start? It’s all good, friends…all of it, and it depends on what you like. I mean they even have pancakes that are decent, but the burritos eat themselves if you ask me.

1. Tim Horton’s

And in the number one spot…the culprit, the chain responsible for perhaps ridding Montrealers of the beloved Dunkin Donuts. But this is a crime we can forgive, as Tim Horton’s has got a great breakfast menu and guess what…they serve it all day long.

They have an assortment of sweets…rolls, muffins, cookies and of course donuts, but if you want something hearty, then their many sandwiches (grilled cheese, wraps, etc.) are epic too. The wraps in particular are exceptionally good and well made…the Farmer’s Wrap takes the cake…it has either sausage or bacon, egg, cheese and, the piece de resistance…a hash brown right there in the wrap, making for quite the complete meal or snack.
