The Best Things We Ate This Week: McDonald’s Grandma McFlurry, Pizza Hut Cheeseburger Melt and More
This weekend is going to be all about grilling and chilling. But we’re not resting here at Guilty Eats. Nope, we’re girding our stomachs for another week of testing out foods for your pleasure.
That includes the big one, the McDonald’s Grandma McFlurry. Is it worthy of Grandma? Is it worthy of McDonald’s??? Read on to find out. We also tried a new melt from Pizza Hut, some stuffed hot dogs, some boozy Arnold Palmers, and more.
In case you missed any of our food reviews this week, though, we’ve got a roundup below! And you can click on each link to head to the full review!
McDonald’s Grandma McFlurry
The big one this week is the Grandma McFlurry, a vanilla soft serve mixed with crunchy butterscotch candies and butterscotch sauce to taste like the candy from Grandma’s pocket. While there’s luckily no lint or hair in there, and you can’t fault “candy” and “ice cream” too much, our reviewer felt this particular treat should have stayed in the old folks home.
Oscar Mayer Stuffed Dogs
On the more successful side of things are Oscar Mayer’s new line of Stuffed Dogs, which come in the already released Cheese, and the new Jalapeño Cheddar, and Chili Cheese. While none of these will replace the classic hot dog, we were pleasantly surprised by the new flavors – and Chili Cheese in particular.
Pizza Hut Cheeseburger Melt
Similarly to the Grandma McFlurry, you can’t fault beef between two slices of pizza too much. But whereas the Hut excels at the pizza part, the cheeseburger part left a lot to be desired. The Melts line is good – our reviewer recommends the Pepperoni in particular – but this ain’t it.
Arnold Palmer Spiked Variety Pack
Looking for a refreshing adult beverage to sip out by the grill this weekend? Look no further than the Arnold Palmer Spiked Variety Pack, which comes in four flavors – Original, Mango, Raspberry, and Strawberry – and packs a nice punch as well as bringing on the classic mix of lemonade and iced tea.
Rice Krispies Treats Chocolatey Peanut Butter
A theme emerges here: don’t mess with the classics. Again, peanut butter and chocolate are good, Rice Krispies Treats are good, but this treat is a little too bland to work. Don’t get me wrong, I ate the whole box like a goat. But perhaps it’s better to grab the ingredients at the supermarket and make it yourself.
Old El Paso Soups
The new line of soups from Old El Paso runs a variety of flavors – but the surprise standout is the cornbread, which mixes Old El Paso’s signature seasonings into cornbread, and is a great side for any meal; soup or otherwise.
Snyder's Of Hanover Hot Honey Pretzels
Maybe not quite as addicting as the Buffalo or Honey Mustard flavors, but this limited edition offering still led us to inhale the bag. It's sweet, it's spicy, it's everything you want to snack on.
