Dunkin’ has come out with its own version of the Matcha Latte. Let’s just say they have failed, at least with the hot version.

February 26, 2020, will go down in history as the last time I will ever drink the Matcha Latte as a hot drink.

I’m not the one who is usually into green, vegan teas — I’m a fast-food critic, after all — but thanks to a good friend of mine who works at the local Dunkin’ I visit regularly, I was able to try their version of the Matcha Latte.

Boy, was that a mistake.

I and another good friend of mine decided to try the Matcha Latte hot, and it was the nastiest concoction that we ever tasted. It had no flavor to it whatsoever, and the bitterness of the drink simply overpowered me. My friend had to doctor the drink several times before it became even remotely passable as a drinkable latte.

She shouldn’t have even had to do that, but I suspect that as more customers order the drink out of sheer curiosity, that will be the norm for her.

Or it won’t sell at all, which would be another flop that Dunkin’ can ill afford right now.

It’s safe to say that Dunkin’ isn’t faring too well when it comes to offering healthier options for its loyal fanbase. The Beyond Sausage sandwich has been a flop, and now the Matcha Latte threatens to go the same route if folks order it hot, as me and my friend had the grave mistake of doing.

When I spoke to my editor about my Dunkin Matcha Latte experience, she gave me the grave news — never drink it hot.

That would have been nice to know before I dove into this drink, and many unsuspecting customers who haven’t tried this drink before could walk into the same mistake we did.

Do yourself a favor and don’t. If you have to try Dunkin’s Matcha Latte, ask for it cold. If you still decide to get it hot, may the food Gods be with your taste buds?
