If you are looking for a feel good family show, then look no further than The Baker and the Beauty. And we got to chat with Lisa Vidal about her part in the series, as well as her guilty eats and baking at home.

If you are looking for a new comedic drama that is perfect for the whole family, then you are in luck, as the newest ABC series, The Baker and the Beauty is set to debut on April 13. And with it comes a vibrant cast featuring the talents of actors such as Carlos Gómez, Nathalie Kelley, Victor Rasuk, and Lisa Vidal.

As food lovers, we can’t resist a series that has baker in the title, and after watching a preview for the new series, we were even more excited to realize just how integral the bakery truly is to the show. In fact, it feels like it is as much a character in the series, as the main cast themselves.

Luckily for us, we also had the chance to speak to one of the stars of The Baker and the Beauty, Lisa Vidal, who let us in on what drew her to the role of Mari Garcia, the matriarch of the family, as well as some of her own personal guilty eats, and the cooking shows she enjoys watching.

To start our chat, I asked Vidal what it was that drew her to this series specifically. According to her, there were a few different things that she liked about The Baker and the Beauty. “First I think was the fact that it was prime time, and it was about a Latino family, and the script was very good.” She also explained that, “it was a very strong script with a modern kind of story.”

However, that’s not all she appreciated about the show, as Lisa Vidal felt that it was both “incredibly relatable and it was positive.” (We love a show that we can relate to in even the smallest of ways.)

When I asked what it was about Mari specifically that appealed to her as an actress, Vidal said, “she’s a fun character to play and I’m able to bring a lot of myself into this character. She’s very passionate, and a very protective mom, very loving, but she’s also fun and sassy and she’s very much in love with her husband and they still have a very sexual relationship with each other, so it’s kind of like a Latino couple you don’t really see on television. They are very family oriented, and hardworking people.”

With The Baker and the Beauty having a food-focused premise, we couldn’t resist asking Vidal if she is a fan of any cooking shows. And we were thrilled to find out that her favorite is “Chopped, and another favorite is Ina Garten.” In fact, she was quick to tell us that, “I just love to cook. I am a cook.” In particular, it seems that Vidal is a fan of making Puerto Rican food (personally, we love eating it).

And since the series is about a bakery and a family of bakers, we had to know whether or not the actress is a baker herself. She shared that she does “bake here and there, but I’m not the greatest baker, although I’m definitely exploring that more right now with my daughter because she loves sweets and desserts.”

One thing that she and her daughter recently made was a pear crumble because they had pears that were starting to go bad. And another thing they have made together that the whole family loves is peanut butter brownies. (I am here for both of these desserts.)

Of course, as we are a site about Guilty Eats, we couldn’t forget to ask what Lisa Vidal’s guilty eat is, and we were excited to learn that it is “Puerto Rican food, such as yummy fried plantains, which we call tostones. And my pork chops are out of control and I make them with rice and peas, which is called arroz con gandules.”

With The Baker and the Beauty set to premiere on April 13, we are thrilled that we had the chance to speak to Lisa Vidal about her work on the show, as well as the things she likes to cook and bake as well. We can’t wait to watch the new series and see Vidal in action as Mari.
