Haunting of Bly Manor is a ghost story even a foodie can love

When it comes to ghostly shows on Netflix, Haunting of Bly Manor is the latest must-watch series. And while you may be wondering why a food website is writing about a horror-based show, there was something a bit different about this series. This time around, we ended up in the kitchen multiples times, and it really was an important aspect of the story.

In an interview for Inverse with Rahul Kohli who plays Owen in Haunting of Bly Manor, the actor opened up about playing the cook at the manor and the importance of the kitchen to the story. And I admit that the kitchen was definitely a central aspect of the story at some very key points.

In fact, one would have to say that the safest place to be in Bly Manor was the kitchen. And even with one or two less than happy moments, the kitchen proved to be the heart of the home.

Rahul Kohli explains the importance of the kitchen in Bly Manor

In his interview, Kohli explains that, “One thing that Bly Manor captured really well is the importance of the kitchen. It’s one of the safe spaces in Bly Manor. Whenever we go back to the kitchen, I think there is a moment where you can release tension. The rest of the house is terrifying, but this place is okay, this is a safe place where the family gets together and talks through their differences.”

If you have watched The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix, then you likely know exactly what the actor is talking about. While the rest of the house is a gamble when it comes to staying safe (and maybe even sane), the kitchen feels like the only room in the house where everyone can breathe.

And honestly, if that doesn’t feel like 2020 I don’t know what does. Since the beginning of the year, people have been dealing with quarantining, trying to find things to do to get through the day, and of course all of the grocery shortages. However, there has also been a strong emphasis on baking and spending time with your loved ones in the kitchen.

If ever there was a series that seemed to perfectly represent the year we are living, it would have to be Haunting of Bly Manor. From the ghosts haunting the residents of this manor to the kitchen being a bright light in an otherwise dreary day, this series gives us something light in the midst of darkness.

We may be a food-centric site, but when a show like this reminds us of the importance of the kitchen as the heart of the home, then we need to give that a spotlight. If you are looking for a ghost story that also offers a bit of unexpected warmth, you may want to head over to Netflix and give this series a watch. Just remember, it’s the kitchen that helps save the day!
