Everyone loves s’mores. Everyone! It’s chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers. What’s not to like? It’s gooey and messy and sweet and delicious. And you make it over a fire. It really doesn’t get much better than that.

But why not switch up some of the flavors a bit? Your Labor Day picnic or barbecue might be your last hurrah of the summer. Why not make it special by adding some different flavors to everyone’s favorite campfire dessert?

More from Holiday

Let’s start with the chocolate! I have two words for you: Ghiradelli squares. Instead of the usual chocolate bar, try filled chocolate instead. A caramel-filled chocolate square with the marshmallow and the graham cracker…are you drooling or is it just me?

Ghiradelli has a bunch of different flavors in their squares too so everyone can have the s’mores they want. White chocolate, dark chocolate, or milk chocolate.

Update your s’mores for Labor Day with these fun recipe ideas

I am definitely eyeing the dark chocolate sea salt caramel for my s’mores. That little bit of salt would be perfect to cut through all that sweetness.

What about the graham crackers? Graham crackers come in all kinds of different flavors, but don’t limit yourself to just that. Why not try cookies too? Ghiradelli sent me a s’mores kit and in it they included Pepperidge Farm Chessman cookies. The butteriness of these cookies is perfect for s’mores.

Sure, you need to be a little more careful when putting everything together since the cookies are smaller than graham crackers, but they are a little less sweet and taste amazing.

What about the marshmallow? Can that be changed up? Or does that need to stay the same? I would say you really can’t switch out the marshmallow for anything else, but you can find different flavored marshmallows to make it more fun.

Lucky Charms just came out with bags of marshmallows. Why not try those for colorful, “magically delicious” s’mores.

I tried Smashmallow’s toasted vanilla marshmallows and they worked really well. While they already have a toasted flavor, I still ended up toasting mine over a fire. They added just a hint of vanilla to the mix. And they are smaller in size so you can eat more s’mores. Always a good thing!

Smashmallow also has sugar cookie, hot cocoa, pumpkin pie, and cinnamon churro marshmallows so you can pick whatever flavor sounds good to you.

This Labor Day, try amping up the flavor on your s’mores. Try one of the ideas here or come up with one of your own. Let us know how it goes!
